About Us
Playing the ukulele along with other people is great fun, and a terrific way to meet new people and make good friends, and according to the newspapers it’s also good for your mental health!
We have two clubs, one meeting in Faversham and one in Whitstable. Each clubs meets twice a month. We charge £1 at Faversham and £2 at Whitstable to cover the cost of hiring the room. Both our clubs meet in licensed premises, and the expectation is that members will also make a contribution by buying a drink at the bar.
Both our clubs use the same songbook, which currently has 120 songs, some for beginners, with only the three basic chords (C, F, G7) and others a bit more challenging. On club nights we play a mixture of songs, to give everyone a chance to shine. We will go out of our way to make newcomers welcome – we certainly won’t just leave them to sink or swim. We can also lend beginners a spare uke to try out.
We have a regular programme of public performances for local retirement groups, music festivals and so on.
If we have a gig on, and you want to come along, please do. Even if you are not the best of players, we can find room for you – and it’s a real buzz playing in public.
